"Captain McDonald"

Monday one of my co-workers came by to ask for my assistance making a training recording. He is the curriculum developer, and we have been working on a project where we will be supporting the military. The idea was to record a call, where I would have to pretend to be in the military. He came to me to ask if I would do it. (Who knew that my almost joining the Air Force would come in handy some day?) Knowing that I have a voice that is pretty much a monotone, I figured that was why he asked me. But no, it was because I sounded like I could be pretty easy to "piss off". Really I don't think that is something I want to have a reputation for. And here I like to think of myself as fairly easy to deal with - really kind of a push-over. Truth be told, I can get irritated pretty easily, although I have been working on that for a few months now, and have improved a lot. In fact, my boss told me she had noticed significant improvement (although with room for growth), so I guess that is a plus.

Anyway - Yesterday we made the recording. To set the scene - He told me to pretend like I was "Captain McDonald", and I was calling regarding my travel orders. It was raining, and I was calling from a phone booth outside a 7-11, with a static-y phone line. In other words, trying to suggest a tone of irritability. Apparently I came through it with flying colors. He needs to add the sound effects and such, but he thinks it will go over well for the training class. Semper Fi!

this is awesome - way to use your talents - or at least make the best of something in the growing process.

Hi, my name's Tracie and I'm a Mormon. That being said, I've provided enough context for the conversation I had with the receptionist at work today: Christy: (Showing me a photo) What picture is this movie from? Me: Mmmm, Serendipity maybe? Christy: No...you should know this. Me: I should? Christy: (Finally) It's from the movie "Charlie"! Me: How would I know that? I don't watch Mormon movies. They're dumb. Now that I've let the cat out of the bag, I guess I should also confess that I also don't listen to Mormon pop music (other than the original recording of The Forgotten Carols), or read Mormon fiction. So sue me. Let's face it, it's not like most of them are of real quality anyway. When it comes to Mormon music, I'll stick with my MoTab and the hymns of Zion.

New 'Do

For probably the last 10 years or so, I've had pretty much the same hairstyle. For the most part, it's been long, all one length, and I would eventually put it up in a ponytail almost every day, because I couldn't stand having it in my face. It drove me crazy, but I didn't know what to do with it, and at the same time, I liked that I could basically get up and go every day without a lot of effort. For the past several months now, I've been threatening to do something different and drastic, and finally, yesterday, I did. At the recommendation of Angel, I made an appointment with her stylist. It took several weeks to get in, but finally, the day arrived. Angel went with me, for moral support, and to be the photographer. I went in with some basic ideas, but after some consultation and looking at photos with Francine, this is what I ended up with. First, the "before" shot: In process: And finally, the finished product: I can't remember the last time...

Columbia River Temple

While I was at home in Oregon, the parents and I also took some time to drive over to Tri-Cities, Washington, to visit the Columbia River Temple, and walk around the grounds. The temple was closed for cleaning, but it was great to be on the grounds anyway. It was a beautiful day, capped off by a BYU win over Nebraska (you can see by Dad's shirt that he's representing, which most of us Mormons are wont to do whenever we go anywhere).
