Once a Week

I was reading a book recently, where the author talked about how for most of her adult life, her goal had been to get to the temple once a month, and how difficult sometimes it was even to attend that much.  She then talked about how a Sunday School teacher had told their class the difference that had come into his life by attending the temple once a week.  So she decided to do make that a goal for her own life, and testified that "I can't tell you how, but attending the temple once a week makes everything in life better."

For most of my adult life, I've been just like this woman - struggling to get to the temple once a month, and then when I finally do get there, being not quite as worshipful as I'd like to be - being overcome with exhaustion or worry or impatience instead.  This despite living in close proximity to no less than six temples. So in an effort to make more of my temple experience, and put the author's promise to the test, I decided to try to go once a week. In the last five weeks I've gone 4 times.  The two temples closest to me are Salt Lake and Jordan River, so I've been alternating between those, and alternating the ordinances I participate in. While I haven't seen any drastic change, I do think I've felt more worshipful when I'm inside the temple, and a bit more peaceful outside.  That alone is a positive change.

What a great goal! Wish we were able do something like that - we are lucky if we are able to go more than twice a year.... good example! :)

Hi, my name's Tracie and I'm a Mormon. That being said, I've provided enough context for the conversation I had with the receptionist at work today: Christy: (Showing me a photo) What picture is this movie from? Me: Mmmm, Serendipity maybe? Christy: No...you should know this. Me: I should? Christy: (Finally) It's from the movie "Charlie"! Me: How would I know that? I don't watch Mormon movies. They're dumb. Now that I've let the cat out of the bag, I guess I should also confess that I also don't listen to Mormon pop music (other than the original recording of The Forgotten Carols), or read Mormon fiction. So sue me. Let's face it, it's not like most of them are of real quality anyway. When it comes to Mormon music, I'll stick with my MoTab and the hymns of Zion.

New 'Do

For probably the last 10 years or so, I've had pretty much the same hairstyle. For the most part, it's been long, all one length, and I would eventually put it up in a ponytail almost every day, because I couldn't stand having it in my face. It drove me crazy, but I didn't know what to do with it, and at the same time, I liked that I could basically get up and go every day without a lot of effort. For the past several months now, I've been threatening to do something different and drastic, and finally, yesterday, I did. At the recommendation of Angel, I made an appointment with her stylist. It took several weeks to get in, but finally, the day arrived. Angel went with me, for moral support, and to be the photographer. I went in with some basic ideas, but after some consultation and looking at photos with Francine, this is what I ended up with. First, the "before" shot: In process: And finally, the finished product: I can't remember the last time...

Tracie's Holladay Inn

For several weeks this summer, I had my own bed and breakfast going.  Or, as my sister refers to it - The "Holladay" Inn.  First to arrive was my sister Wendie and her family who came and stayed for a couple of days in mid-June on their way home to Oregon.  The week after that, it was my brother Todd and his family from Tucson.  The week after that, it was my sister Stephanie and her family, on their way to their new home in Houston.  And a few days after that, it was Mom and Dad, on their way to the MTC and their mission in Mississippi. For the most part, a great time was had by all.  There were a couple of instances of sick kiddoes during the night, but other than that, we kept busy and enjoyed ourselves.  The best part was getting to see so many of my nieces and nephews and have some quality Auntie time with them. Should your travel plans bring you to the Salt Lake area, here's a list of amenities you'll find at Tracie's Holladay Inn: A s...
