Went snowshoeing again today. Angel and Bridget and I had planned this for a week now, and were very much looking forward to it. However, we woke up this morning to the sight of it snowing. If it hadn't been such a welcome relief from the week-long inversion, it would have been a bummer. Shortly after that, Angel called to say she was sick, so would be unable to join us. Double bummer. But thankfully the snow stopped, and after a quick check of the traffic cam, Bridget and I felt confident enough to make the attempt and drive up Parley's Canyon. So we hit the road.
Our destination was the Beaver Creek Trail, near the town of Kamas. However, we'd forgotten a map, and I failed to program the GPS, so we were a little uncertain of where we were going. Thank goodness for highway signs and ranger stations. With a little help we found our way to the trailhead, clipped on our snowshoes, and set off. It's a lovely trail, and we had it pretty much to ourselves. It follows a creek, and is a pleasant and easy hike. We hiked for close to an hour, before we stopped and took a break and had a snack. Then it was back down to the trailhead and the parked car. Other than both of us getting a pair of bad blisters, we were none the worse for the adventure.
From there, we headed back to Kamas and then over to Oakley (sight of a big July 4th Rodeo that is attended by just about everyone in Northern Utah). By that time we were ready for lunch, and we had heard about a diner there that was in an original diner car. Being the fan of Triple D (Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives for the uninitiated) that I am, it was not to be missed. We had a great time. A good lunch, homemade shakes, and Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash on the jukebox.
After that, it was home to Salt Lake. I can't tell you what a good feeling it was to drive down I-80 and be able to see the city and the Oquirrh Mountains, all inversion-less. It was a great end to a great day!
