Bwah-Zay Weekend

Met up with my Brother's family for a quick weekend in Boise.  It's getting to be one of my favorite cities - plenty of fun things to do, easy to get around, and halfway between here and the family homestead in Oregon.  Which makes for a convenient place to have a getaway with family.

(Sadly, my camera batteries decided to go on the fritz right away, despite being charged the day before. But my sister-in-law took a whole bunch of pictures, so I will post a few of those as they become available...)

After checking in to the hotel in the early afternoon, we stopped for a healthy lunch, then went of to the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa.  This is a museum that specializes in World War II era aircraft, and also has donated journals and pictures from former service personnel.  It also has aircraft from World War I and Vietnam.  My oldest nephew dreams of someday becoming a pilot, just like his hero President Uchtdorf.  He also wants to be an astronaut.  So the Warhawk Museum was quite a hit with him and the rest of the kids.

After our airplane adventure, it was off to the local Cabela's.  The kids had a terrific time looking at all the taxidermy animals, and the gun library.  We also picked up a few sale items at the Bargain Cave. As we were checking out, the kids noticed the jerkey, and since Grampa loves jerkey, they needed to get some to remind them of their trips with Grampa and Gramma.

From there, we went to enjoy a dinner and dessert at The Cheesecake Factory.  It took awhile for us to get a table, but when we finally did, we had a fun dinner.  My youngest nephew was quite fussy by then after having missed his nap.  One of the manager's came by and soothed him and asked if he would like a banana, and through his tears he said "yes", and after that he was a totally different boy.  So cute!  We all had some really yummy dinners, and topped it off with chocolate sundaes for the kids, and cheesecake for the adults.  I for one highly recommend the Chocolate Tuxedo Cream Cheesecake (so much for the "Skinnylicious" Veggie Burger and Salad I had before that).

Saturday morning dawned quite chilly, so instead of going to the Zoo as planned, we spent most of our time indoors.  First we went and toured the Idaho State Capitol. It was really quite a beautiful building, and it was interesting to see the rooms where the House and Senate meet.

(Since I'm the political moderate in the family.)

From there we went downtown and found a yummy Mexican Restaurant called Pollo Rey, where I had some amazing fish tacos, and the kids went crazy for the chips and salsa.

After lunch, we drove over to get a few pictures at the Boise LDS Temple.  It was recently remodeled and re-dedicated, so it was fun to see the changes to the outside. Although it was quite cold, we got a couple of pictures. Just a few more years and the kids will be able to go and do Baptisms for the Dead.  They can hardly wait.

After that, we drove back over to downtown and went to see the Boise Art Museum.  Favorite things there were the Art Experience room, where kids can do hands-on things, like write on chalkboards, play with magnets and blocks, read books, and design on a computer.  Another favorite was a film showing how some of the glass artwork was created.

From there, it was time for us to depart for our separate destinations, which is never fun. But we had a great time and can't wait for our next Boise weekend!

Tidying Up

If you've been watching Netflix much lately, you've probably seen the new series "Tidying Up", with Marie Kondo. She's an expert in cleaning, tidying, and storing stuff, and her method is quite inspiring. I enjoyed the show so much that I ordered her book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up", and spent several days trying to get my house more in order. Not that I'm a hoarder - I have a basically tidy home. But the Kon-mari method teaches you to look at your belongings and ask yourself if each particular belonging brings you joy. If it doesn't, it's time for it to move on. I went through all my clothes first, followed by my books and DVD's, followed by the office, followed by the kitchen and laundry room. Whatever didn't bring me joy or a happy memory went into the pile. And when all was said and done, I ended up taking an entire car full of stuff to the local Deseret Industries, to hopefully be re-purposed for someone else to find

New 'Do

For probably the last 10 years or so, I've had pretty much the same hairstyle. For the most part, it's been long, all one length, and I would eventually put it up in a ponytail almost every day, because I couldn't stand having it in my face. It drove me crazy, but I didn't know what to do with it, and at the same time, I liked that I could basically get up and go every day without a lot of effort. For the past several months now, I've been threatening to do something different and drastic, and finally, yesterday, I did. At the recommendation of Angel, I made an appointment with her stylist. It took several weeks to get in, but finally, the day arrived. Angel went with me, for moral support, and to be the photographer. I went in with some basic ideas, but after some consultation and looking at photos with Francine, this is what I ended up with. First, the "before" shot: In process: And finally, the finished product: I can't remember the last time

Triple D Divas Do Northern Utah

Last Saturday, the Triple D Divas met for a day trip get-away to Northern Utah - specifically Logan and Brigham City (with a little touch of Idee-ho thrown in for good measure). We started our journey with lunch at the Bluebird Cafe. Everyone knows about the Bluebird - it's about the oldest place on main street, and is tradition for anyone whose ever done a Logan Temple Trip. We went in to see the Logan Tabernacle, and I snapped this cool picture of the oragn pipes. (Of course, now that we're all in our 40's and have shrinking bladders, the Tabernacle also made for a clean and convenient potty stop.) ...Also a view of the Logan Temple spires from outside the Tabernacle...    From there, it was off to Glossner's Cheese Factory for some squeaky cheese. After that, we went to the Pepperidge Farms Outlet, and the girls all found some cookies and stuff.  But nothing really excited me there.  However, the outlet is located in
