It's been an alternately relaxing and crazy week, and the New Year celebrations are still a bit of a blur.
Wednesday we had our annual New Year's Eve Celebration hosted at Angel's. But before the festivities began, Angel and I braved the frigid temperatures to walk over to Temple Square, for their annual Broadway Sing-a-long at the Assembly Hall. Who knew they even had an annual Broadway Sing-a-long? How have I missed this? Needless to say, it was fabulous. An hour of singing show tunes, led by the music directors of the Hale Center Theater. We even got a chance to shine when the roving microphone was held in front of us. The good news is that I'm now in the know, and Angel and I have a new tradition to add to how we ring in the New Year.
After the sing-a-long, it was back to Angel's condo on the 22nd floor, where we were joined by Inge, Janeen, and Matt for food and a Cary Grant movie. We ate way too much, gorging ourselves on L'il Smokies (my NYE must-have), rotel cheese dip, guacamole, and chips, and enough diet pepsi to ensure we could make it to midnight. The rest of the city was celebrating below us at the EVE Celebration, and we could hear all the music and see all the lights.
In lieu of fireworks, Salt Lake decided it would be cool to build the world's largest disco mirror ball. And I suppose it would have been if it did anything. But all it did was hang there.
I hope next year they bring back the fireworks - because they look really cool from out Angel's living room window.
Anyhoo - After that it was time to head home. I hit the pillow at 2:00 AM (thank goodness that is only once a year), hoping to sleep til 8:00. But alas, my eyes popped open at 6:30. I did manage to stay awake during the Rose Parade, and took a nap during the Citrus Bowl. After that, I picked up Angel and we drove to Julie's for a New Year's Day party. We played games, and ate too much. We also went through magazines and cut out pictures and made collages of what we hope our 2015 will be like. It was a fun activity, and a good way o get thinking about my goals for the upcoming year.
