It's December, and that means it's time to watch Holiday movies. I'm a sucker not just for the classics, but for those sappy ones on Lifetime and Hallmark. You know the ones - "A Boyfriend for Christmas", "A Town Without a Christmas Tree", "A Carol Christmas", "Snowglobe", etc. They usually star some fading TV star like Tori Spelling or one of the angels from "Touched By An Angel", or someone from a daytime soap who's hoping to hit it big.
One thing I have noticed is that there are about a gazillion remakes and updates of "A Christmas Carol". The other day I think I counted 4 or 5, all being played on the same day.
So this begs the question - What is your favorite version of "A Christmas Carol"? My personal fave is a black and white British version from 1950, starring Alistair Sim. I remember seeing it for the first time the year that my family lived in Bellingham, Washington. It was Christmas Eve, and my parents let me and my brother stay up late. The only TV we could ever get were some stations from Vancouver, Canada, and since it was winter, that meant either we watched hockey, or weird Canadian TV movies. But on Christmas Eve, they were playing this version of "A Christmas Carol" late, and I just remember being completely enthralled with it, and really feeling the spirit of the story. My brother and I sat and watched it in the dark, and just soaked it all in. To this day, I still like to watch it on Christmas Eve, in the dark, with the tree lit up, and maybe a glass of egg nog. Wouldn't be Christmas without it.

Favorite Christmas movie of all time though? It's a Wonderful Life. It doesn't get better than that.
