I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I adore all things "Sound of Music". It's my favorite movie, I love the music, and I've carried a torch for Christopher Plummer since I was a little girl. And frankly, if Julie Andrews had never made another movie, her purpose on earth still would have been fulfilled. So imagine my utter delight when I was out shopping the other day and discovered the 45th Anniversary edition of the movie soundtrack on CD. After having sent my homemade cassette copy of it to the DI long ago, it took all of two seconds for me to make up my mind to buy it.
CD purchased, I hurried home, with visions of singing "Sound of Music" songs at the top of my lungs, dancing in my head. I walked in the door and immediately popped it into my computer so as to import it into my iTunes and synch it with my iPod. As the import got going, I all of a sudden made a discovery with which I was not amused. This version of the CD came with a bonus track. Now normally, this would be a cause for rejoicing. But in this case, it was appalling. Because the bonus track was of Lea Michelle singing "My Favorite Things". Excuse me - Lea who? Some wannabe from "Glee"? Are you freaking kidding me? How dare they! And on the 45th Anniversary edition! I mean, Lea Whatever-her-name-is won't even be famous 45 years from now, let alone after "Glee" runs its course. Richard Rodgers would be turning over in his grave. MAJOR FAIL!
There, now that I've got that out...I haven't even listened to that rendition, and I made darn sure that track is not on my iPod, so I can at least rest easy there. And memo to Fox, or Sony Corp, or whoever is responsible for this travesty: If you're going to put a bonus track on the "Sound of Music" soundtrack, it had dang well better be one with Julie Andrews!!
