So after the drama and fiasco with AT&T last weekend, I was hoping for a bit of a reprieve this week. But it seems that karma had other plans for me. It all started on Tuesday when I was going back through my finances. While I was in Iowa, I had paid to subscribe to a site called "Find My Past". Said site was supposed to give me a free pass, due to its agreement with FamilySearch. So I hadn't wanted to subscribe. But I found a possible clue on that site that referred to the family history black hole that is my Great-Grandfather Smith. But in order to look at the clue I had to subscribe for the low price of $12.95 (or something like that). So I subscribed, found the clue, and that it did refer to the aforementioned ancestor. Hallelujah! That is, until Tuesday, when I discovered that the supposedly "reputable" site had charged me not $12.95, but $179.95 instead. Say what? Of course, the said site provides no way to contact them or their customer service, and no way to unsubscribe. So I had to call the credit card company to dispute the charge, which will take "only" two months to handle. Sheesh! What a racket! Trial number 2...
Then comes Wednesday. I had worked an extra hour that day, and had plans to meet up with friends for the Stake Picnic. I hurried home, changed clothes, and went to leave the house, only to find that the garage door wouldn't go down. After 15 minutes of trying to mess with it, I finally pulled the emergency cord and put the door down manually. Better to have the door down than stuck open. But it also meant that the beloved Monty had to spend a night out in the open air instead of with a roof over its head. Poor Monty! I also had no idea of a good Garage Door Repair Person, so had to spend some time online to find someone to call.
Thankfully I found a guy who had great reviews on ksl.com, and he came out mid-day on Thursday and got the door back working. But that cost me $165. So much for doing any clothes shopping this week. The door also acted up again on Friday, so the guy had to come out again on Saturday morning to make a minor adjustment. Triple sheesh! Let's hope the door behaves from now on!
I've heard that trials supposedly come in threes, and if that's so, then I think I've had my fill. Here's hoping things turn around this week.
